Bittersweet

I know it is rather silly, but I get attached to inanimate objects when they have a large part in my life. And thus the fact that today a bid a fond farewell to my faithful litte truck is a bit nostalgic.  It is staying in the family, as my dad bought it off me, but I will miss the sturdiness and nonchalance that having a truck offers.

This was my first car, and has been a faithful little truck for eleven years now.  It has on numerous occassions gotten me out of tough situations simply by being a truck.  Parked in in front of a curb? no problem, it's a truck, we'll jump it.  Locked in a parking lot overnight? - no problem, they didn't fence the whole lot, we can get out of there.  Really crappy roads for this climbing trip we're looking at? no worries, we'll take the truck.

I am super excited about my new little car, but I know I will now have to pay better attention to parking lot closing times and if I get parked in... well, I'll be stuck.  But at least it's staying around, I have visiting rights.  But it is still going to feel like a long drive today as I go to drop it off.

I know the feeling. The SIM card in my personal phone has been with me almost daily and across hundreds of thousands of miles for the last 8 years. Nothing else has been with me that long - even my tattoo.

Yeah it's weird isn't it? The faithfulness of the inanimate objects in our life... I think it is the line of the constant drawn across our past and realizing we are about to lose that one thing we could always know was there...

As a species, we're very much aware of the passage of time and have a tendency to track relationships over time as well. It's helped science and many a pining lover over the years. XD

I know what you mean. I miss my little red truck.... It died years ago of a broken transmission. I learned to drive in that truck. I still have it, and I intend to restore it, I just haven't had a chance to do so. I also think most of us know what it's like to get attached to inanimate objects, especially if they've served us faithfully for a long time.

Nice to know I'm not the only one. I am guiltily glad that it is staying in the family though... I have visiting rights :)

Oddly enough, I bought my Yaris hatchback because it can jump curbs and clamber around trails as good as most compact pickups between still having 8 inches of ground clearance and approach and departure angles front and rear that make some Jeeps blush with envy. =^.^=

So don't count out your new car, especially crawling up over something at a careful angle in a corner, newer cars are surprisingly nimble.

Oye - well the guy I bought this one from lowered it, so it's a bit lower than stock.. but yeah, still going to try things out on it I"m sure!

Hopefully you don't get caught on a speed bump.
